How does acupuncture work for you?

The acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine (T. C. M.) is quite different from the modern medicine, even from modern science. The history of acupuncture and T. C. M. in China is over 2000 years long. It has exerted great effects on human health.

Acupuncture works on the Qi system in the human body. The main meaning of the Qi is energy or power. In China, if people feel tired, they will be called short of Qi. There are many kinds of Qi moving through our body. They don’t move irregularly, they are moving right along meridians -- the energy channels in our body.

When people have uncomfortable feelings such as pain, sore, numbness or weak, we say they have Qi problems. Most of the symptoms are due to Qi problems. You will feel pain in the location where the Qi is blocked. Another common problem is deficiency of Qi. You will feel very tired and have no interest in doing any thing if this problem occurs.

Acupuncture is a treatment method using needles to stimulate the acu-points right along the meridians. By using special manipulations on the needles, the acupuncturist can control the Qi, then the patient should feel some sensations of the needles such as sore, heavy, numbness, swelling, or something special. As while, the acupuncturist will continue move the needles by special manipulation, try to make the Qi move smoothly and faster and open the block, that should cause the patient feel something moving along the meridian; or try to give more energy to heal the deficiency of Qi. After the treatment, the Qi system will have some responses toward the stimulation and the system will be re-balanced by itself. Then, all of uncomfortable feelings will disappear. This is the main difference between acupuncture and the modern medicine.

Although acupuncture sometimes has magic effects, it is not magic. According to different constitution of a specific patient, different treatment course should be used. Your disease is not occurred in one day and absolutely can not be cured in one day.
